The Daily Pakistanpolitics Dec28-30, 2009

  • Dec30-2009--The new NFC award tobe signed in Gwadar...The award is based on the considerable expansion in revenues in teh country, a 5% handout by the punjab and the center increasing provincial share by 10%...sindh and balochistan to benefit from considerably higher gas prices and nwfp and balochistan being given a 100 billion seperate handout by the center
  • Dec30-2009--Four nato oil tankers destroyed near Sibi
  • Dec30-2009--Nawaz sharif rejects zardari accusations of being a non state actor destablizing democracy suggesting that zardari and his misguided regime themselves responsible by deputing non state organizations to hike prices and taking terrible economic advice from the IMF and major non state actors that they work with...
  • Dec30-2009-- As is well known washington based on AQ Khan accusations again blames musharaf and kidwai as the major nuclear proliferators to north korea...AQ khan in another letter confiscated from his daughter in 2004 says that pakistan provided nuclear help to north korea over six years...North Korea the washington post says could have been enriching uranium thru 3000 centrifuges by 2002..pakistan rejects accusations as teh north koreans are said tobe more advanced than the pakistanis and acquired nuclear bomb materials thru other methods...
  • Dec30-2009--37 militants and 4 levies men killed in orakzai operations
  • Dec30-2009--PAF chief inducts an AWAC aircraft in the karachi sector which he says will be able to detect aircraft taking off from the indian side...given the indian army chiefs mischievous statement that they could achieve their military objectives in 96 hours after starting hostilities against pakistan...pakistan military operations chiefs retaliated by saying that delhi would be a pile of rubble in 96 hours...
  • Dec30-2009--seven killed in mohmand shelling
  • Dec30-2009--thousands of shops in the bolton market to light house area were set on fire by what can at best said tobe shiite miscreants..nobody else would go near such processions these days due to the countries situation......teh karachi fire deptt was inefficient as despite latest equipment it could not douse teh fires...despite a government holiday situation remained tense and uneasy...
  • Dec29-2009--videos of the bombings showed nothing much except people running from the scene...later suggestions emerged that shiite reactionaries set fire to buildings and hampered fire trucks as police watched...after the blast many say the only people on teh street were either cops or under cover cops...others suggested that the fires could have been part of the blast plan...many say karachiites wise to stay away from such potentially dangerous processions...others suggested that teh shiite reactionaries were part of the procession as there was no one on teh streets apart from the procession...
  • Dec29-2009--As sectarianism resurfaced in karachi a bomb blast at a shiite procession killed 43...reactionaries who are worse than the terrorists than set buildings, cars, police stations and shops on fire ...over a 1000 shops burnt with four buildings near collapse...there were minor indications that terrorists were moving back to karachi which had not seen any suicide terrorism for over two years...many however feel that the terrorists were boxed in by military actions in teh north and had to escape as the heat mounted on them...furthermore the lack of reactions in teh north and the teh governments passivity literally accepting terrorism as something they could not control caused them to hit back at an area that worried the government more...such reactionary terrorism especially arson oriented had surfaced at teh time of Benazirs death and many believe it is orchestrated by various forces including extremist mohajirs, secessionists and some even say indian terrorism orchestrators...it is basically carried out by area hoods who are always willing to move out in times of trouble...many blame the mqm for its orchestration as their area violence control is said tobe better than other parties...video shown on television seemed unable to detect anything even though police was saying that they were getting some information...others say that one of the heads found was that of a scout...the government has been unable to control terrorism and they seem to have a reserve of suicide bombers and their coworkers who can move from area to area...karachi has seen quite a lot of sectarianism over the past two decades and is said tobe a hotbed for LJ activists despite an almost total or widespread anti sunni/taleban suppression...police in karachi have literally gone after all sorts of terrorists and gun runners and have said to be involved in literally shooting to kill even old SSP workers...mqm also said tobe involved in killing opponents and sunni activists of the LJ/taleban/SSP types...
  • Dec28-2009--Zardari blows hot and cold at benazir anniversary claiming a conspiracy is afoot...many see his government as being controlled by the financial haves and beaurocratic brokers who are as always against teh peoples well being or against teh people... despite political successes..in over two years sindh has been unable to exploit their coal reserves which nobody has looted, electricity and gas load shedding continues and prices hikes of over 100% in electricity, gas and food have stifled life..in fact in teh countries north gas pressure is so low that people cant use it to even cook food...reports of government getting ready to increase medicine prices as well...!!..The NFC is seen as barely changing anything and only punjab has given up 5% of its share...Zardari says he is now going to appoint a woman governor to gilgit baltistan ...something that even Benazir avoided...they talk about teh 1973 constitutions restoration but it is now all meaningless to the people who have little hope of any good coming from such convoluted governance by people who worry about their own powers but not of teh sufferings of teh people...the governance is just a little different from that being practiced by the military...The governments mind boggling attitude is demonstrated by media reports covering teh karachi mayhem in which they slotted in the news that the IMF had approved a further $1.2 billion in loans as if the target of the bomb blasts was the IMF..the economy is of little interest to anyone when all it does is raise prices of essential livelihood...
  • Dec28-2009--low intensity blast causes injuries in karachi

The Daily Pakistanpolitics Dec24-28, 2009

  • Dec28-2009--while zardaris close associates playup suggestions that they are pro secession zardari rejects bangladesh and iraq/lebanon type scenarios for pakistan...however many suggest that the PPP is pushing pakistan towards a zimbabwe/nepal like scenario where soon its currency maybe little more than worthless paper and electricity/gas shortages might become worse and unending... zardari plays both sides of teh coin rejecting secession but suggesting that there will be noone after us to defend pakistan...death is an inevitability and he says they will continue to die......pakistan has proved its viability and individuals while important are not required to stand up for it...many suggest that politics aside it is important to improve the lot of teh people which is an abiding necessity in a country increasingly controlled by teh rich for their own ends....institutions have to exist and acquire importance for them tobe in conflict...saying that there is no conflict between institutions but his destination is another jail where he will be sent by ambulance...might be seen in the light of teh army chiefs orders to make the garrison to CMH road in rawalpindi a fast paced road...?methinks qurbanis are not required but it might be essential to quickly move to find the killers of Benazir who the PPP is now saying was killed by a huge conspiracy which might have started in london and ended in an associate suggesting that she stand up in teh vehicle to wave to her supporters...?
  • Dec27-2009--there are many who now think that teh mukti bahini was just a minor taleban like movement even though it managed to seperate pakistan in two..while zardari says that no new mujiburrehmans will be allowed he gives potential seperatists top positions in sindh and at teh center...teh docile PPP has of late been threatening to kill in retaliation if the current political system meaning Asif Zardari is ended..while raja riaz said that the next political murders will be from the punjab?...others are suggesting that nawaz sharif learn the meanings of magnanimity and political discusssion from his brother who did not break off relations and discussions despite teh anti punjab nature of teh NFC issue...many suggest that teh NFC discussions revealed that teh country is not very dissimilar in thought as provinces refused to use brinkmanship to topple the ugly political cart for a few provincial bucks...a sindhi politician says that teh east pakistan imbroglio was just a minor political difference while imran khan thinks that the taleban and mukti bahini should not be suppressed...there may be a need many say to constitutionalize the meanings of secesssion/terrorism and define secessionist movements and what teh state should do to tackle them that is apart from article 6...meaning that if teh state wants to go to war with a province or militarily armed/threatening movement than there should be a parliamentary process and it not be left to the army chief alone...if pakistan thinks it is democratic than it should be doing its thinking and decision making in parliament rather than on teh street or at home and war or wars should not be left to the urgings of teh USA or a few dumb political and military leaders...
  • Dec27-2009--27 injured in a roadside bombing in karachi
  • Dec27-2009--taleban behead lashkar chief in bajaur
  • Dec27-2009--ten killed in orakzai, mohamnd operations

  • Dec27-2009--benazir muqbara striking and scene of devotion by PPP and family in garhi khuda bakhsh on her second anniversary...the PPP left with no ideology or pro people policies have only a consensus on benazir...their politics driving pakistanis into teh economic gutter...as they try to gain sympathy for benazirs selfless qurbani...
  • Dec26-2009-- ten killed in airstrike on a house in orakzai, four killed in swat, two policemen killed at a peshawar checpost as two schools are blownup in landi kotal and judicial buildings blownup in bannu
  • Dec25-2009--suicide blast on peshawar mall kills four
  • Dec25-2009--yusuf raza refuses to accept that his government maybe gone by april next year saying the quetta and baltistan polls show their popularity
  • Dec24-2009--Holbrooke says that what happens in pakistan does not affect the US...suggesting that the melodramatic NRO drama includes teh pakistani political cults, SC, kayani, PMLn and PPP..many say it displays teh crude PPP attitude which took shelter under it and now says that it does not matter...many suggest that the NRO came about under a kayani brokered deal and helped teh PPP smoothe anti PPP attitudes...many suggest that it has also killed the kayani mandate which also included Benazir or did it...?...The PPP generally seems to hit the people in the stomach and than says it is solving problems...PPP unable to understand teh peoples economic needs and only dabbling in political problems that hardly effect the people anymore...who cares now if a PPP official running around as a dummy primeminister is torpedoed by a 58-2b or there is a 1973 constitution or not if the people cant do anything about electricity, wheat, gas, petrol rates...?The 1973 constitution to the PPP only means that there is a sindh a punjab and nwfp...and an NFC issue, a water issue and a balochistan isue...such politics and governance hardly matters if the people are going to suffer continually under the cruel mean nasty people that benazir has left behind to torture us...
  • Dec24-2009--tu hun jaake bogiyan bana as minister of state for law transferred to ministry of railways after mishandling teh NRO controversy...law secretary also replaced...two retired judges now federal secretaries...

The Daily Pakistanpolitics Dec23, 2009

  • Dec23--2009--Shah Mahmood qureshi who one must say seems tobe running parallel to the puny frightened pakistan government questions new US policy of threatening to invade pakistan and start activities in balochistan...reports already suggest that teh US is running terrorist outfits in pakistan...The pakistan regime which is providing cover to US activities and is literally being dubbed a facile democracy is only brave in military acquisitions and political faceoffs with rivals but unable to utilize any military hardware which than rots inits military backyards...the latest seem to be the acquiring of useless air refueling aircraft from teh ukraine which can at best be described as useless in a war but might keep a monitoring aircraft up in teh air...many suggest that teh government acquired teh aircraft after children questioned the airforce chief why their military aircraft did not have protruding nozzles like the US...many hope that drone attacks on balochistan and north waziristan may cause the first direct conflict in which the airforce can use its swedish awacs, ukraininan refuelers and might be chinese thunder aircraft...to shoot down unarmed drones...obviously pakistan will run for cover if armed US aircraft intrude and challenge them...
  • Dec23--2009--In what is being termed as the only bravery that the PPP government displays electricity rates were raised by another 15% considering teh the initial base...the government as usual hurts the people while benefiting its friends teh industrialists and agricultural lobby...This government has now raised electricity rates by over a 100% and still electricity companies keep complaining...raising rates is not teh answer......many suggest that pakistan is now worse than nepal where electricity rates are Rs10...the agricultural lobby is benefited as usual by a hefty 40 billion subsidy on electricity while the poor get only 16 billion...the country cannot see any hopes of industrial growth because of high rates of electricity, land prices and bad manpower attitudes...the government has continuously raised electricity rates despite high profits by generation companies such as hubco and kapco...government should move towards an industrial profit margin target of of 6-8% rather than 15-40%...This is the only government which has provided no benefit to teh people in any way....
  • Dec23--2009--The Judiciary usually only known for its anti PPP nature goes after the countries loan rich those that have had loans written off including Yusuf raza gilani...suggesting that they are having lists prepared since 1971...there is even an NGO owner who ran of with 10 crores in loans that he took from Nafdec...for making an english film...
  • Dec23--2009--Asif Zardari must be one of luckiest looters this country has seen inits history barring the industrialist, chaudhries, sharifs etc. and loan writeoff beneficiaries...?he now benefits from teh presidency as the NAB is subjugated into requesting teh courts that cases against him cannot be initiated under article 284 also telling teh courts bluntly that they cannot move swiss courts against the president
  • Dec23--2009--another suicide bomber blows up outside the peshawar press club killing 3
  • Dec23--2009--Zardari relative.. rehman malik interior minister and former FIA chief gets his sentence given in absentia suspended...initially seen as a PPP boss and having some guts and bravado he has been subdued into almost nothing by the new PPP rulers and judiciary...
  • Dec23--2009--Ali Ahmed Kurd questions the SC judges immature attitudes and asma jehangir calls the SC 17 judge panel a jirga..SC has off late seemed to move towards a hangmans attitude rather than that of a judiciary...many suggest that the SC is taking over the NAB/police/FIA role in a vacuum created by a lack of governance...the judges seem to revel in a dictatorial suppressive role many say...others say the zardari-gilani clan also attempting to rule like a dictatorial jirga where the people can sit around and watch but not question...
  • Dec23--2009--18 militants killed in Orakzai
  • Dec23--2009--former fauji prisoner of war and sindhi pukhtun anwer mansoor tipped as new AG...many say asfandyar now taking over altaf husseins role as new Zardari controller...?
  • Dec23--2009--many question teh governments writing off of jail sentences and humanitarian release of indian terrorists/fishermen...can a primeminister or chief minister provide relief to those sentenced...?many say the primeminister should show a humanitarian attitude towards his own people rather than the animosity prone indians......

The Daily Pakistanpolitics Dec21, 2009

  • Dec21-2009--two nato oil tankers set ablaze near the western bypass in balochistan as men in a pickup fired on them
  • Dec21-2009--The NRO whatever its nature had swept under teh carpet destablizing conflicts of political victimisation, possible corruption, examples of brutal methods adopted by teh mqm to come to power in karachi and their suppression...it was basically intended as a peace offering by the musharaf regime in the hopes of a never ending illegitimate presidency...benazirs untimely removal ended teh militaries hopes and literally gave teh PPP a two year breathing space in which everybody sat around doing nothing...however teh NRO's removal has reignited fears and political conflicts which saw the dictatorial democracy destabilize as opponents saw ways to move into teh fissures and dying hopes of unending dynasties saw hopes rise as political power seemingly was once again up for grabs...the military went into a nine hour corp commanders conference as teh PPP designed face saving methods of accepting a confrontational judicial decision which had their ministers scrambling for lawyers and bail before arrests... The surprising conflicts between various institutions on personal accountability shows that teh judiciary, military(including the ISI), PMln and PMlq are all getting away scot free due to teh conflicts in teh PPP's attitude...both the military and teh judiciary have refused tobe scanned by outside forces while teh PMLn and PMlq are getting away due to the PPP's confusing attitude...while the attorney general was asked to resign after allegations now the PPP says that since nobody else(generals and ex generals,CJ,nawaz sharif, musharaf, PMlq etc..) resigned after allegations their ministers and president wont either as teh allegations are old and have gone thru teh judicial hoopla many a time...while nobody seems to want elections the PMlq suggests that a change might occur next year in which possibly the primeminister or even president could get teh boot while teh judiciary is being urged to sidestep constitutional protections to teh president by suggesting that islam gives no such protection...there is only teh caliph omar example who was willing to answer allegations why he got a longer chadar than others...that also suggests a musawwat(pun on the equality concept of the constitution) approach that is missing from pakistans elite ruled and taxation/foreign doles fueled governance...under islam the ruler is generally considered sacrosanct while some suggest that mischief makers can be executed or killed...?The whole imbroglio over the past three years saw allegations of petty corruption against the chief justice whom the military attempted to tumble out his position and murder charges against teh coup plotting power grabbing army chief and teh PMlq...The CJ who said pilfering petrol or getting a son a sifarishi job was not enough to charge him ineffect suggesting that the chief justice and army chief had total immunity against corruption charges...many suggest that many want the zardari loot divyed up(from legharis old initial allegation of 1 billion apparently he now has 1.5 billion)...one would have to suggest that the PMLn says that it was the one that initiated teh SGS/IPP contracts and must be given a share while according to teh corruption ridden or free rides to switzerland and back(NAB) there are twenty-five claimants of teh said zardari accounts...many have seen the supposedly honest army generals unable to handle accountability appropriately and the judiciaries behaviour seems to suggest that there is no honesty when a buck is available...others suggest that the army/ISI unable to get along with totally new unsubjugated faces whom they have never met or seen are thus dragging along the old setup minus one or two.....the PPP's slow approach to a new NAB has seen them get into trouble and everyone has to realize that there is nobody honest enough or even independent enough tobe an independent adjudicator on such matters because if u have sixty million... a few million can see a judgement go either way...obviously the PPP might be able to get a person more able than saif ur rehman or teh army generals or might be one of the few retired judges who might have an unimpaired wallet or vision...it is better to do such things as appointments on day one and tell teh incumbent/appointee to get on with it...Asif zardari too might take caliph umars example and explain teh swiss accounts although a sixty million chadar and an ajrak are totally different matters... to the people in a address or at a peoples gathering...if zardari is not claiming the accounts than he should tell the people...the matter is not about khappay only methinks...or the mukti bahini or mujibur rehman...many suggest that even mujeeb ur rehman had teh mukti bahini lay down their arms(one kalashnikov) in a public symbolic ceremony in front of him...Many however suggest that the power hungry yusuf raza gilani who had already urged asif zardari to be ready to move on has gained some power while ministers tumble around him...many opponents see his hand behind teh destabilizing conflicts as he prefers to stand around watching refusing to even present a viewpoint in the SC but always ready many say to issue some sort of a rejoinder after teh fact...others suggest that the PPP unable to find another consensus primeministerial candidate to replace him...
  • Dec21-2009--news reports suggest that swine flu is on teh rise with a few deaths
  • Dec21-2009--plazas being demolished in lahore especially on teh approach to the sharifs model town...!!...
  • Dec21-2009--eight militants killed in batkhela and buner while a school is blownup in kurram agency
  • Dec21-2009--excavation of the 4-5th century mound of the ghost(jinn wali dheri) completed in taxila..excavation delayed by a century due to the presence of djinn's and reported find of a 150 fragment mural

The Daily Pakistanpolitics Dec18-19, 2009

  • Dec19-2009--The PPP government is being dubbed the governance of slaves(hukm de ghulam)...jo kaho ge kardiyan ge chaudhry sahab ...kiyani sahab...sharif saheb...altaf saheb...juidge saheb..manmohan saheb..obama saheb...asfandyar saheb...etc..etc......starting out following orders of musharaf..than nawaz sharif it has gone thru a rigmarole with literally everyone..following doggedly to its detriment the orders of the army, mqm, USa and finally those of the SC which gave orders on teh NRO as the poor lawyers and SC judges felt they had nothing left todo...while many see teh judgement as a regurgitation since such agreements as teh NRO have routinely been made between dictators and the likes of teh present PPP...will the SC also overturn the balochistan package which has init many NRO like issues...others say the PPP barely made it thru the last corp commanders conference who probably decided that it was too early for another coup...while others said that teh army had not recieved marching orders from teh USA and india to takeover teh country yet again..still others say that the long 9 hours corp commanders conference was doggedly assured by the dummy primeminister that they will follow the hukm of the new chaudhry of teh SC...many suggest that yusuf raza gilani who apparently still has much of teh Rs200 million agricultural loan hidden away says he has not benefited from governmental largesse like the NRO victims despite a loan writeoff by just making a 25% payoff...the poor NRO beneficiaries are now victims again of their own parties governance...many say the governments weakened power was demonstrated by two FIA inspectors who refused to allow teh defence minister to leave teh country apparently saying he was on the ECL to talk about the frigate deal of the previous regime..others say that the interior secretary later suspended may have tried to foment a coup of his own...or an incident to provoke the army...!...many suggested that ahmed mukhtar decided that it was better tobe in china rather than in coup threatened pakistan...to top it mukhtar says he had already won his case before teh NRO...a top contender many say with kaira and gondal for teh PPP's beleaguered primeministership...further embarassment was to follow as an accountability judge ordered the arrest of teh interior minister...rehman malik already riddled with an insurgency had tobe supported by teh pehlay mein or just me..primeminister who questioned how the countries police chief could be arrested...others say yusuf raza controversially claimed that benazir had advised him to think only of himself...?...log(people) jaan jahanam ich......in another first yusuf raza came out in defence of teh morally threatened president by saying he had already served a 12 year undeclared sentence and was only fighting mean enemies orchestrated allegations...while another top dissident enver baig also called for teh resignation of teh NRO tainted claiming foreign diplomats were embarassing and taunting them now...? while teh government said anybody who was convicted would not be defended...kaira came out with a strange statement that teh PMLn was not in a position to fight any election...?...many in the PMLn and PMLq waited to see if teh government had any guts to start its own accountability compaign while yusuf raza claimed that teh army could not even carry out or complete accountability in a proper way despite being dictatorial...?

The Daily Pakistanpolitics Dec17, 2009

  • Dec17-2009--In what can be considered a major turnaround the SC which had watched passively cases being withdrawn or ended under the NRO for over two years declared for the first time inits history an ordinance to be unconstitutional under teh strange grounds that it contravened teh provision of equality...victimisation too contravenes teh concept of equality...as do the upside down soceital, security, social and financial structures in pakistan...however one does not see why a government cannot withdraw cases when it knows that they are politically motivated and that teh individuals concerned have suffered enough...the SC has thus joined teh band of politicians who do things for political reasons or because they are more popular than teh truth or reality...while the SC has correctly or dubiously declared teh NRO ultravires the withdrawal of cases should have been left to teh individual judges who can do teh same thing all over again...one does not know whether teh court has the powers to cancel legal proceedings entoto...this is teh second case in which the SC has overturned executive ordnances, actions or legal court proceedings..while teh action is strange since it backed down earlier asking the government to validate teh ordnance in parliament... one does not see how the parliaments approval would have changed teh basic nature of unconstitutionality...there is a basic conflict in teh SC's attitude and one hopes that one day it will overturn its earlier wrong rulings approving teh unconstitutional military takeovers and rule...It also cancelled all judicial and governmental actions after 5 October 2007 under the ordnance...it is also quite well known that the attorney general acted under teh orders of teh than government to withdraw the swiss cases as they were at best being tried as money laundering and teh withdrawal of a case is not an unconstitutional event...why teh swiss courts ended teh cases is unclear unless it was clear that they were politically motivated and were being handled in a strange political alliance between military dictators in pakistan and the western rulers coalition...?
  • Dec17-2009--while the PPP rulers especially yusuf raza gilani have started to look pathetic as they were unable to present any sensible view on the NRO case in court...while many regard asif zardari tobe immune while he is president he could be facing a host of cases if he either resigns or when he leaves office...apparently teh PPP enjoys court cases and hopes to make teh SC look stupid if they can again get the lower courts to reject NAB's cases...many suggest that they should quickly move to replace the NAB heirarchy with people who might be more favorable to them...there is talk of resignations in the air and yusuf raza gilani could present his resignation and allow a new primeminister to start afresh with a relatively untainted team...there seem to be no thoughts of zardari resigning unless the military forces him out...There are also talks of Gen Petraus threatening the rulers but zardari apparently has refused to move faster in the quagmire of waziristan and have rejected american attempts at starting operations in north waziristan which is relatively calmer these days
  • Dec17-2009-- the cabinet apparently decided to reduce ministries to 30 from 42 and divisions from 52 to 37...they also will attempt the unpopular...privatise PIA, railways, steel mills, wapda and pepco as they say they spend 252 billion on them which is more than they used to spend before privatisation started ...one wonders what they want todo with all the huge taxation revenues...they will also supposedly reduce foreign travel and travel around in locally produced armoured vehicles...while entourages should not be more than three vehicles they will have seven and six for chief ministers...
  • Dec17-2009--27 militants killed in kurram
  • Dec17-2009--seven die as helicopter gunships strike Tirah valley

The Daily Pakistanpolitics Dec12-16, 2009

  • Dec16-2009--In what many say is teh governments considerable lack of discipline the governments aging lawyer Kamal Azfar's statement that teh government was under threat from teh CIA and GHQ in teh NRO case was taken to task by the SC saying that teh court was willing to issue a restraining order against teh GHQ if teh government is willing to be specific...azfar belongs to the very old days when teh GHQ and teh american CIA were usually upto their usual tricks...there have however been reports of military conclaves which can do things to teh government at a moments notice even though many think that teh military has lost the desire to intervene directly after three previous disastrous military rule attempts...with teh chief justice hinting that there could be 50 fallouts from our decision and another judge asking if teh government is trying to save asif ali zardari...teh government however said that they were willing to accept teh courts wisdom...?teh CJ however commented there is a clear way to impeach a president and teh judges should respect whoever is in teh presidency..whether corrupt, illegal or a coup plotter...It was again observed that teh countries agencies and media want to create evidence after an allegation rather than before and even after decades of investigations they had no real answer to what they were doing...investigating a crime, building one up or plotting a political victimisation
  • Dec16-2009--suicide car blast in DG Khan in front of PMLn leaders house kills 24
  • Dec16-2009--Yusuf Raza Gilani seizes personal control of the planning commission, ministry of development, ministry of investment and ministry of education transferring teh education minister to ministry of industries and the industries minister to head the kashmir and baltistan affairs ministry...minister of investment made minister of privatisation which was previously headed by naveed qamar...ajmal qasab came from the area of the new kashmir affairs minister...chairman planning commission becomes advisor on education...
  • Dec16-2009--government again resorts to load shedding for the untenable reason of canal closures...obvious unavailaibility of standby power generation...many suggest that teh government should stop power to teh countries 200,000 tubewells, rural areas and industrial sectors rather than trouble the multitudes in bigger cities and towns...and conserve power...
  • Dec16-2009--government seeks the arrest of ex ehtesab bureau chief saif ur rehman who is absconding since 1999 for cutting and torturing asif zardari...saif ur rehman says asif zardari cut his own tongue with a broken glass while others say a police officer threatened to cut his tongue if he ever spoke again...saif ur rehman a bmw car dealer had acquired considerable power during teh nawaz sharif era and was supposedly responsible for even selecting ministers...

The Daily Pakistanpolitics Dec10-11, 2009

  • Dec11-2009--In what is being seen as a way out for the government... long seen as unable to govern... still resisted either naming ministers to key empty positions and only reshuffled three ministers and seven secretaries...many suggest ministers unhappy with their ministrys have been given new assignments...Ijaz Jakhrani seen as lacking the intellect at the ministry of health has been shifted to sports while teh dawn says that Aftab Shah Jilani has been shifted to interprovincial coordination to make way for jakhrani or for his anti indian attitude...Yusuf raza gilani and asif zardari known to harbour pro indian sentiments...while makhdoom shahabuddin who was overshadowed by the planning commission has taken over teh health ministry...one empty slot has been filled and another created...many suggest that yusuf raza gilani may have won his battle with the party chief...
  • Dec11-2009--The government apparently pleaded at the SC hearing on the NRO to restrict itself to teh constitutionality of the NRO rather than give a broad based decision covering all issues involved ie distributing government largesse to teh blue eyed...it is like telling the people that free tractors to the agricultural landlords will help then get cheaper food...the government basically wants the judges to say the case is basically over as the NRO no longer exists..while others feel that sending people to jail is meant to correct wrong attitudes and suffer for wrongdoings...yusuf raza gilani feels that his being in jail is some sort of badge of honour...what teh judges should tell politicians is that everyone who transgresses political boundaries of greed has to suffer...!!
  • Dec11-2009--Hamesh Khan of the BOP arrested in the uSA...as one BOP loanee says everyone is corrupt...
  • Dec11-2009--some differences settled over sindhs anti population position in the NFC..many suggest that sindhs positions were formulated decades ago and teh financial picture of who pays taxes and poverty zones has changed to literally destroy sindhs anti punjab position
  • Dec11-2009--while the US wants pakistan to accept just indian noises on kashmir asif Zardari wants them to mediate who one must say is a bit naive since the US has over decades just been the voice of india in all regional disputes...The US unable to even talk straight to the indians on any issue does not know their long history of overtures to teh US and than jumping into the russian laps all over again...The US which has shown a longing like china for the opening of indian markets has had military exercises in laddakh and is really not an unbiased country as far as pakistan is concerned...pledging friendship and aid one day and acting teh bully teh next is teh usual US attitude towards pakistan...Obama who praised teh necessity of war while taking the Nobel peace prize was being ridiculed by republican hangovers in his government who suggested that his 2011 withdrawal deadline from afghanistan is not a line in teh sand...
  • Dec11-2009--with 2600 people having died in terrorist attacks in pakistan over 2-1/2 years many wonder whether the incursions are being made into india/afghanistan or into pakistan...as US planes intruded into pakistan and drone attacks continued mchrystal contradicted mullen who said that he would go in and solve teh problem if pakistan did'nt by saying that there would be no hot pursuits...with everyone in teh US system having differing positions pakistan should worry and be ready for cross border attacks...
  • Dec11-2009--Ijaz Jakhrani acts to suspend 20 doctors attending Huma Wasim and fires Pims director for malpractice in teh death of an mna...pakistani doctors have no credibility and are known not to accept responsibility...
  • Dec11-2009--ten militants killed in Bara operations
  • Dec11-2009--Aitezaz Ahsan meets Asif Zardari..many say that teh PPP could theoretically soon need a new president or primeminisiter and aitezaz with his close ties to teh judiciary could just be the man to replace either of them...others suggest that zardari might have been sounding him out for the law ministry or attorney general position...while others suggest that aitezaz might have been consulted as a member of teh CEC or the PPP dissidents

The Daily PakistanPolitics Dec9-10, 2009

  • Dec10-2009lahores moon market death toll is 61
  • Dec10-2009The PPP moves on the balochistan package removing the military from kohlu, sui and gwadar...forming three new FC wings of baloch recruits to replace them and withdrawing 89 cases...as things are easing in balochistan while they keep getting rougher elswhere... there are doubts about the baloch package however the PPP has nothing else to do with a huge budget lying around and seems tobe dealing with only political matters...yusuf raza gilani blamed by many as not being able to push things faster...
  • Dec10-2009The NRO started to reverberate in court as swiss money and how much and who it belonged to started tobe questioned...amounts mentioned in the press are from 150 000 dollars to about a million dollars with teh NAB saying there are 25 claimants...after a decade of NAB investigations and the government having reached a settlement with SGS-cotechna as well NAB had started pulling back in early 2007 when nothing substantial was happening...the military later reached a settlement with the PPP and literally withdrew all teh cases...however as teh PPP regime tried to reinvent the NRO it ran into trouble...the PPP onits own withdrew 8000 cases against teh mqm however only zardari and a few ministers might get into further trouble...
  • Dec10-2009another school blownup in Bara
  • Dec10-2009several men arrested from sorgodha including american students here to study terrorism training
  • Dec10-2009provinces fail to agree on how to divide huge provincial share...views just on how much should be divided on population and tax collection differs widely...the government has already offered over a 100 billion each to balochistan and nwfp...while punjab is opposing seperate allocations...sindh generally considered teh most developed province wants issues benefitting it only to be topmost which is being opposed by others while punjabs population position which was teh basis of teh 1973 constitution is opposed by other provinces...most of the NFC discussions are generally in an anti punjab vein with punjab many say expected to lose over 10% share due to the low level fight being put up by the punjab PPP finance minister...over a trillion expected tobe teh provincial share with teh center saying that it is increasing taxes by 500 billion in january...many suggest that inter provincial and ethnic rivalries are teh basis of much of the terrorism of late while many others blame the policies of manmohan and mchrystal as four truckloads of indian arms have been seized says rehman malik...with a curious devious and difficult to accept statement from the american military praising manmohan suspiciously for moving towards resolving kashmir as a supposedly border issue...while the musharaf regime had suggested a soft border approach in fact accepting its defeat on kashmir the PPP has not clearly stated its position trying to go along with previous policy of making life easier for kashmiris but teh indians have not shown much of an interest in any sort of solution preferring to stay away from negotiations as long as possible...
  • Dec9-2009Supposed taleban terrorism spread further afield as taleban bases in south waziristan were being wiped out...A reportedly ISI office in multan cantonment was hit by a suicide bomber killing eight..terrorism has shown the pathetic failure of military and civilian intelligence systems and the military is the only group that has any respect for a supposedly famous intelligence organisation...presenting as a soft target gunmen shot thru guards and blew up the building...
  • Dec9-2009PPP backs down on cantonments in sui, gwadar and kohlu handing over the kohlu cantonment to the FC
  • Dec9-2009Pakistan announced for the second time that it had received a swedish airborne radar system as the americans threatened to widen the areas of raids into pakistan...many suggest that with a weakened government attacking american drones maybe teh only thing that can stop terrorism and revive some confidence in benazirs pathetic partymen many of whom are literally fighting for political survival
  • Dec9-2009 Irsa rejects punjabs water demand from the indus as wheat sowing season approaches...
  • Dec9-2009pervez elahi says punjab to lose as much as 100-150 billion as teh sharifs play provincial charity with punjabs share...
  • Dec9-2009pakistan rely on their new fast bowling attack as they announce the same cricket team for the australia tour whose openers at least are suspect...younis khan seems to have quit cricket..many suggest that he and at least two new openers might have to be flown to australia after the first test...only umar akmal and kamran akmal have shown some real form followed by mohd yusuf...the others are at best in the side for fun apparently...

The Daily Pakistanpolitics Dec6-8, 2009

  • Dec8-2009--In what many are calling the subjugation of the pakistan army the NRO president and primeminister are finally venturing into the terror stricken army city of rawalpindi under the protection of teh armies top duo..both have avoided rawalpindi like teh plague...the fortified zardari(reports of building a wall around the red area in islamabad or a fence) who only ventures out of his fortress to go to the airport has refused to appear at events in punjab and even a PPP rally in lahore... is being compared to the MQMs equally frightened altaf who refuses to venture even into the mqm home base of karachi..he also did not take the dangerous route of going to the CMH by road but went by helicopter...with the jittery gilani appearing at a collective army funeral apparently suggesting that i am the quaid and not zardari...?off late controversy after controvery have followed the top duo...what with loan writeoffs for gilani and having an american terrorist related PRO...while Zardari apparently refused to wear the jinnah cap and started a campaign for teh sindhi caps revival...not many sindhis appeared for teh karachi cap rally...others are suggesting that the PPP is against teh sindhis wearing regional identifications...otherwise punjabis might have to start appearing in dhotis and mohajirs in pyjamas...europeans already regard pakistanis as going around in their sleeping suits(kameez shalwars)...this amongst reports that top army generals refused teh appointment of a new army chief suggesting that kiyani continue for the present...other controversies bogged down teh PPP further after gilani was unable to handle a cabinet reshuffle and the buck was passed back to Zardari who suggested that they were just going to reshuffle ministers of state who suggested that they would join teh PMLq if removed...The SC on teh other hand wanted a complete list of NRO beneficiaries and suggested that the SC would only deal with the NRO issue and not teh overall issue of those benefitting continually from government largesse...most governments have been plagued with the same issues of benefitting individuals or special interest groups...The PPP says that they have gained a few thousand votes by policies benefitting agricultural landlords and the sugar industrialists...
  • Dec8-2009--PMLn supports balochistan package which some say is cosmetic...government says it is looking for missing persons and studying financial and constitutional problems and studying how to deal with musharafs involvement in the bugti killing...many suggest that the government should offer balochistan teh next presidency as well...
  • Dec8-2009--An american called daoud gilani who some say is related to yusuf raza gilani charged with planning of bombay attacks while visiting india and pakistan...india has remained dumb at evidence of outside involvement while only blaming pakistan... many suggest that teh US had evidence of teh attack which the indians refused to believe or take necessary precautions to prevent
  • Dec8-2009--9 die in peshawar suicide attack while at least 45 killed in two attacks in lahore's iqbal town which also caused a plaza fire..a bomb also went off in quetta
  • Dec8-2009--License of suspicious natured explosives manufacturer Biafo restored without assigning any reason for 58000 kg illegal shipments to balochistan
  • Dec8-2009--13 member Fata legislators refuse to rejoin government unless Owais Ghani a military appointed governor is replaced...they had one minister and one minister of state
  • Dec8-2009--eight militants killed in bajaur and 4 killed in swat
  • Dec8-2009--strike in interior sindh against acquittal of murtaza bhutto murder accused...acquittal means that police acted correctly in a badly mishandled shooting at bhutto cavalcade..case has been in limbo since a long time and accused included mainly police officers including Shoaib Suddle(who got appointed to every position imaginable in the police service later on) and Masood Sharif(Ib chief) both considered PPP insiders....many think that Benazir or the sindh chief minister(both now dead) ordered the arrest of Murtaza and that he be brought to islamabad..Shoaib Suddle was mainly accused of irresponsibility and mismanagement as he apparently sat drinking tea and paid no heed to firing near his residence..despite evidence that the police posse took a negative precarious attitude of we refuse to let u thru...some said that some of the policemen involved were knocked out later by PPP(sb) men but no departmental action was apparently ever taken against the senior officers involved...There were also reports that Murtaza bhutto was killed on teh orders of the army for having a major killed in peshawar during an al zulfikar PIA plane hijacking during the zia ul haq times when teh bhutto brothers were in exile in kabul and who got a large number of PPP walas released and who were than transported to damascus...many relate teh present time terrorism to what happened in teh late seventies and early eighties...some even surmise that ossama ben laden has a striking resemblance to the younger bhutto son...
  • Dec8-2009--protests in muzaffarabad as four men are whisked away to peshawar by the ISI...?
  • Dec7-2009-- After meeting one mullah in karachi the interior minister says that all mullahs against terrorism...despite clear cut evidence that afghan prayer leaders and younger mullahs were literally involved in all sorts of terrorism ...the IJT, JI and JUIf have shown support and sympathy for the taleban and teh mqm has been constantly involved in an armed agitation against opponents in karachi

The Daily Pakistanpolitics Dec2-5, 2009

  • Dec5-2009--There was immense concern at reports that the attacks might be the result of internal army dissension, many suggest that the rewards of top positions in the army could possibly cause people to knock of people in line for promotions...while others suggested that pukhtun generals had as usual knocked of a punjabi general...possible coup planning/thinking, indian involvement, reports of possibly having blownup planners of the bombay attacks and a number of other tension creating stories...obviously army cantonments do not seem to have any specific protection systems and are just as easy prey as are civilian areas...many see the failure of teh current regimes economic and security policies even though teh army suggests that the militants are on teh verge of defeat...many played up gilanis absence from teh country and no one could reject the endless possibilities of possible political culprits...mqm, sindhis and possibilities of both pukhtun and baloch groups were being discussed
  • Dec5-2009--the recent attacks have come after teh Obama surge for afghanistan raising concerns in pakistan and on the militants side as well as there was talk of increasing drone attacks, urging the pakistan army to open more fronts and threats of attacks on quetta...there was concern at the lackadaisical attitude of the tottering pakistani regime and whether it would be able to standup to further smothering of teh pakistani phsyche by indo-US pressure...
  • Dec5-2009-- In another attack on a soft target taleban terrorists attacked a small parade lane mosque with two suicide bombs, hand grenades and kalashnikov fire killing 40 in the heart of rawalpindis cantonment...the dead included a major general, other officers and officers family and children...mosques have been teh favorite targets of sectarianists and only recently have teh taleban started targetting mosques...it seems to have been an overkill scenario and possibly suicide bombers want their drivers and coordinators to die with them...pakistani taleban have a tendency to claim whatever comes their way
  • Dec4-2009--In what is becoming a comedy of errors teh SC possibly to avoid political pressure or absorb all of it setup a 17 judge panel to hear petitions against teh NRO...The government already short of a corruption accused attorney general is unsure whether to defend or just listen...whether the judges include the writing off of loans by previous regimes and individual agreements with the military is still up in the air...in capitalistic systems those who cannot repay loans have to lose everything...but in pakistan they not only are bad economically but also maintain their status as bussinessmen and politicians of repute and this goes for three or four possible type of politicians...politicians accused of upto 30 murders..having billions written off,the third types who are accused of massive corruption and the fourth illegal military rulers...political victimisation is a big thing in pakistan especially during military regimes and those who curry favor are usually the benefactors...and than there is teh one family which has lost at least four in what can be called political assasinations...the judges have to study all that in detail or just give a verdict that everyone has to return the loot as calculated by say a commission of judges...whether they be bhuttos, zardaris, sharifs, chaudhries, gilanis or even political henchmen...generals and small fry also should not be allowed to escape...
  • Dec4-2009--with the US literally acting as an indian client in the region mike mullen contradicted Obama by saying that they were a following a regional strategy meaning that strategic cooperation offered to pakistan was literally an eyewash..US policy contradicts its regional interests when it attempts to destablize pakistan...pakistan should not feel guilty for actions of others and the US should force india to give up its mean natured interests for regional stability but many say teh US starts acting like a pet puppy when it has to force india to do something while acting as bully when dealing with pakistan
  • Dec4-2009--20 taleban killed in swat and orakzai area military operations
  • Dec4-2009--punjab prisons minister says teh SC chief justice was of the main road or "bhatke hua they" before march 2007
  • Dec3-2009-- bomber attacks Naval HQ gate killing two..police later issued a possible face of teh bomber
  • Dec3-2009--Lakhvi challenges indictment in bombay attack case saying ajmal kasabs statement was not admissible
  • Dec3-2009--21 militants killed in bajaur, malakand and hangu
  • Dec3-2009-- Obama announced his troop surge in afghanistan that looked almost similar to the Bush surge in iraq...there was no particular explanation why 40000 troops were not provided and why 30000 were agreed to...no known consultations occurred with pakistan...there was again teh hue and cry at having to spend 30 billion more on troops for afghanistan...many suggest that the US has already agreed to pull out troops in 2011 after behind teh scenes negotiations with the taleban...The US believes that its job is done and that in three years it will be able to withdraw or create an Okinawa like situation after pushing Karzai to supposedly relative honest governance...there was the depiction on tv channels of american troops lying on teh ground guns ready with an afghan girl drawing water from a well in the background...it shows the basic unreality and needless deployment of troops...they have no real al qaeda to fight and the taleban are hidden away only emerging for minor hit and run attacks...The americans say that teh afghan forces will be ready to take over in three years and they will try to reduce corruption and improve farming and stabilize pakistan...a program they already follow in pakistan to the detriment of the populations desires...they offer pakistan strategic cooperation meaning that they will protect their nuclear weapons(plus push the indians to offer some sort of agreements to pakistan) which donot seem under threat at teh moment...pakistan worries that they might start pushing taleban into pakistan from the mid to lower western borders of afghanistan...The US upto now has not mounted a concerted effort or fight against teh taleban accepting that they can live in the rural safe havens as long as they donot cause too much trouble...They have however caused problems for pakistan by insisting that pakistan fight those onits side thus literally destablizing pakistan by an insurgency of almost mamoth proportions...The US wants an iraq like situation created where they will be in teh background and teh afghans will suffer the bomb blasts as usual while they will only see afghan uniforms and teh odd bombings of some unknown opponents of teh afghan government...They have seen how pakistan has been destabilized by their remote control efforts and should avoid that in afghanistan...helping teh farmer in pakistan has turned into a poverty creating almost continuous price hike...They should offer the afghans free food that would be much more likely to create a harmonious atmosphere rather than teh constant foreign faces who cause almost constant problems...The reports from afghanistan had said that more troops will only lead to more bloodshed...
  • Dec2-2009--suicide bomber kills ANP mpa in mingora and other members of his family
  • Dec2-2009--France and germany refuse more troops for afghanistanwhile england pledges another 500...OBama wants nato to arrange another 5000 troops...while US troops will supposedly come in by summer the short duration they are going to be there would make them ineffective as new troops take months to acclimatize from a peace time to a war like area
  • Dec2-2009--Sindh forsees a 10% drop in punjab share after it gets population share reduced to 70% in NFC...while many see punjab as being victimised by teh sindhi controlled government as punjab now pays more than its due share of taxes due to most taxes being indirect...it is anyway second in revenue collection and it is other provinces that will suffer due to sindhs mean nature...other provinces however are asking for inordinate levies of electricity royalty and gas surcharges and thus punjab is expected to suffer the most...many suggest that the punjab PPP finance minister does not understand that punjab is being victimised...punjab has yet to claim any royalties on ghazi barotha, mangla and a couple of other small river projects

The Daily PakistanPolitics Dec1, 2009

  • Dec1, 2009--The Obama letter continues to raise hackles as teh US wont give pakistan what it wants and expects it to deliver something they cannot...afghanistans solution lies inside afghanistan and given the situation on this side of the border one can hardly believe that teh taleban are capable of incursions from anywhere in pakistan...The US seems frightened of fighting the afghan taleban and is blowing hot and cold over something that might not be deliverable...by pakistan...The US has crisscrossed over fata and other border areas of pakistan and killed hundreds thru its drones but been incapable of getting the two al qaeda leaders or even one that it wants...many believe that teh US is acting on indian and afghan intelligence while others believe that the ISI is providing it all available information...however teh US attitude of running hot and cold with pakistan continues according to the NYT...many suggest that US information might be based on bounty hunters...If the US continues to ally with teh indians than they might never be able to solve afghanistan and will always keep pakistan unstable due to teh indians animosity...with supposed problems or US casaulties occurring in the mainly pukhtun belt in afghanistan running alongside the pakistan border teh solution could well be some sort of internal independence for the afghan pukhtuns...or just a withdrawal from pukhtun areas by US forces...barring the supply points...The pakistanis reportedly have been against a US withdrawal as it might cause a backlash into pakistani territories once they are free of pressure inside afghanistan...pakistan has on the other hand asked for drones to be supplied to them so that they can try outwitting the tribals while publically opposing US drone incursions and attacks...many problems are created by teh US militaries unrealistic attitudes mainly towards pakistan and involvement in politics and thinking that every thing can be handled with force...others suggest that teh US actually wants to fight pakistan rather than create a democratic peaceful afghan state...more strategic cooperation is hardly anything attractive to pakistan who know the US much better than the rest of the world and it would turn out as many think here tobe a US-indian scheme to further dupe teh pakistanis thru political machinations...

  • Dec1, 2009--The governments policy of duping the public and benefitting the industrial-agricultural ruling elite continues with yet another hike in petroleum prices...petrol now at Rs66 per litre...

  • Dec1, 2009--The constitutional amendments are bedevilled many say by the demands of nwfp...starting out with extortionistic hydel royalties based on dubious calculations...that also includes a controversial renaming of nwfp opposed by teh PML's and new demands that want provincial languages tobe declared national languages as well as the presidency tobe rotated amongst the provinces...sindh on the other hand wants an illogical share of teh national resources...some say jovially that the sindhis want their cap tobe nationalized too or provided constitutional protection...many different caps are worn in sindh

  • Dec1, 2009--Yusuf Raza Gilani generally regarded as a pro indian politician who has been accused by teh indians of being related to a US terrorist called daoud gilani says the indians are very insincere...Danyal gilani a PRO to the PM since shaukat aziz's days claims he is his estranged half brother while the more sincere shah mahmood qureshi falls into indian traps and says terrorism threatens everyone and suggests euro intervention in indo pak relations

  • Dec1, 2009--15 more baloch released by teh army

  • Dec1, 2009--In bajaur a girls school is destroyed and fauji and afghan spy killed

  • Dec1, 2009--Rehman Malik refuses to accept that he could be replaced as interior minister...teh interior minister has been functioning more as a messenger to altaf hussein than doing anything to improve teh working of police and internal security services...

  • Dec1, 2009--66 killed in khyber agency operations and troops searching for militant leaders after capturing LI hq's

  • Dec1, 2009--10 militants killed in Kurram operations

  • Dec1, 2009--many in punjab think that asif zardaris nara of pakistan khapay means pakistan is mere noise or trouble

  • Dec1, 2009--army says it will participate in Fata reconstruction...while yusuf raza said that he had already made his plans... nwfp governor told tobe ready with detailed initiatives for devlopment of the area ...army and airforce chief visit operational areas to demonstrate teh armies new anti terrorist weapon...three feet wide wire(jali) filled concrete anti bomb walls...encouraging the frightened politicians to visit forward areas many say

How it all started...coups and politics and islam and democracy...

How it all started...coups and politics and islam and democracy...
how bhuttos got into politics in 1958...

debacle in Dacca

debacle in Dacca
total humiliation...India had steadily destabilized east pakistan over twenty years playing on ethnic, financial, development and military concerns...pakistan was not that rich at that time and the ethnicists played on phsychosis generated by cyclones, floods, tea and jute...the army and west pakistani politicians could not accept a bengali dominated government and a small army contingent could not defend against the mukti bahini and the indians as teh US withdrew its support as usual...When teh going gets tough teh US chickens out as usual...!! The indians have continued teh same themes in karachi, sindh and balochistan but similar tougher responses have not allowed their success although pakistan is now at best a divided land with a pathetic center...!!While it left pakistan numb at the time many now feel the seperation was a proper solution as east pakistanis did not get along with pakistan and they would be better able to solve their problems with india...others still pine away for the lost land of rivers, tea and jute...others suggest that india should handover kashmir in exchange...while some still want to repatriate those considered pakistanis and left stranded in bangladeshi camps...others however heave a sigh of relief as teh problems with the remaining provinces are generally insoluble.....and ethnic regionalism or provincialism mixed with economic and racial nonsense is not a pleasant mode of politics anyway...

allah be praised

allah be praised
