The Daily PakistanPolitics--July 1, 2009
July 1, 2009--In what is being seen as continued resistance from swat militants 16 were killed alongwith three soldiers...army is probably less careful thinking the job is done and is losing more soldiers daily...they recovered an explosives laden vehicle...In Dir teh lashkar destroyed 15 militant hideouts and killed two..an explosion in a Buner bazaarJuly 1, 2009--utilities being restored in most of swat...and shangla..impersonators of armymen reported causing trouble in IDP camps...July 1, 2009--Reports suggest that mna's are being seen as useless people after they could not stop teh government from raising prices unnecessarily..their image is falling as fast as that of teh government...despite huge electricity price hikes last year the government wants to burden teh peopel even more than ever before with another huge electricity and petroleum price hike..the primeminister showed that the government was not short of funds when it raised teh mna development funds to Rs20 million and that its policies were deliberately designed to hurt the people...in their daily lives...teh peopel will now have to pay for power utility salary hikes and teh governments ill advised petroleum hikes which will raise transport costs in teh huge army, government, transportation and obviously the peopel will have to pay for the related price hikes in other fields...while teh government pays lip service to bussiness sectors they have also been unable to restrict teh governments one line economic policy of price hikes, price hikes and price hikes...July 1, 2009--car bombs kill four in kalatJuly 1, 2009--the government which has caused huge losses to the people without compensation reduces gas prices by a miniscule 2%..earlier they had hiked gas prices sharply last year....July 1, 2009--at least seven militants killed as jets pounded positions in north waziristan while taleban banned peoples meetings with government officials July 1, 2009--while shah mahmood qureashi took solace in a month old story of teh indians thinking of reducing troops in kashmirs urban areas an indian delegation in washington was urging teh USA to decrease aid to pakistan as it would be used to strengthen the military on teh indian borders...pakistan like india trying to strengthen its awacs capability and acquire new workhorse planes for its airforce...teh JF-17 whose assembly in pakistan started is supposed to have state of teh art forward looking capabilities while many think that visually it is not too sleek even if the airforce chief said that it was a light combat aircraft...pakistan has been restricted by the USA to refurbish its fleet of aging F-16's which are still its frontline reaction force...many think the JF17 is designed on the version of teh russian SU30 and the american F-15/18...if the indians are not a threat to pakistan than pakistans military strength should not worry them...the indians have backed down twice in recent years based on what pakistan might throw back at them...however pakistan has been unable to restrict indian orchestrated terrorism both in teh political and terrorist fields......many have suggested that indian evacuation from kashmir follow the USA inits evacuation from iraq..?July 1, 2009--suicide bomber kills eight on afghan side of torkham checkpost...July 1, 2009--even punjabs politicians think of teh high cost of maintaining the military and its huge retired component..rana sanaullah retorted that he will calculate teh cost of maintaining the retired faujis after a retired fauji questioned the cost of Rs4.8 million per day of teh provincial assembly..a retired fauji who lives longer due to an easier life is usually cared for by teh government to his death...provincial assembly to censure prisons minister for his unruly behaviour... July 1, 2009--bajaur taleban leader surrenders..a security man killed in attack on convoy in janikhel areaJuly 1, 2009--zardari insists on friendly relations with india...it is just not possible given teh hinduistic control freak mean indian nature ..he also wants provincial autonomy....obviously by that he means that he should be allowed to stop water to canals in punjab or punjabs complete subjugation.. that too is not possible as than balochistan and sindh will refuse to sell their gas to punjab and sindh and nwfp also want the right to refuse electricity sales to other provinces..one baloch politician wants no port and only fishing allowed on its coast.....also sindh wants its coal electricity and air electricity to be exorbitantly priced...apart from that nwfp and punjab will than have to stop river waters from flowing downstream...punjab would like its wheat tobe paid for...karachi will say our port facilities should be priced upwards or cannot be used by other provinces etc. etc....with nwfp, sindh and balochistan even unable to tolerate people from other provinces moving around..provincial autonomy to the extent taht it is practised at present is teh only way possible otherwise all teh provinces will set up walls and blockades in every possible way and bring everything to a halt...provincial autonomy basically means that there is a provincial assembly and that there are regional rulers...but autonomy can only go to the extent of the smooth functioning of a multi state or multi province system and not beyond to create a my resources for myself only provincial stalemate/mess...teh current powers in provinces are barely being utilised appropriately with provinces not able to control weapons, terrorism, tribalism or ethnicism...karachi has been unable to even handle its electricty production and distribution.. law and orders problems have caused other provinces to grind to a halt with resources of teh punjab government being apparently blocked by the center and the punjab government stopping funds for its local bodies...sindh only getting funds where even Benazir district has billions...autonomy and supposed cloak and dagger friendly relationships with enemies has limits..a meaningless relationship with india has been proved tobe useless thruout history and probably nobody can deal with provincial autonomy either...
