The Daily Pakistan Politics--Aug14-15, 2009
Aug15-2009--The government is apparently buying sugar at Rs 25 per kilo and selling it to the unwary public at Rs38...The nasty and mean industries minister refused to bring sugar rates down even in ramazan...why the government is taking a hefty 55% profit is not very clear..Aug15-2009--american policy in the region is for pakistan to follow their orders and for india to do whatever it wants...a former ambassador to india Robert Blake the defacto secretary of state for south asia which as far as teh US and india are concerned has no pakistan...Blake has no soft spot for pakistan as is apparent from todays dawn...pakistan had better eat politics while india orders it around...people cannot be condemned without a trial as is done in india and perhaps teh USA too...it is clinton who does not want to raise teh issue of kashmir not pakistan as suggested perhaps erroneously by Blake...a country can hardly be teh highest foreign policy priority when its views and interests are totally rejected...Aug15-2009--Mr Zardari must have a very myopic view of things ..he wants a country that cant protect its gas plants, pipelines and power pylons from being bombed to become a hub for india and china...rajasthan, gujerat and indian punjab are not very far from bombay and they really donot need pakistani ports...as far as china is concerned it would best leave its hinterland undeveloped as it is a politically volatile territoty...building pipelines is a costly business and pakistan has enough problems of its own to manage...Aug15-2009--The judges who have been fired say there are enough loopholes in teh anti PCO judgement to warrant an appeal...?Aug15-2009--Nawaz Sharif says the army should prosecute musharraf for bringing it into disrepute and disregarding teh constitution...he mocked the islamabad traffic police saying that if a traffic error is punished than so should teh abrogation and negation of teh constitution...Many have however argued that teh army should court martial musharaf and a court of his peers should sit in judgement...there are enough retired generals to form a court martial headed if needed by teh army chief or general tariq...?many have argued that nawaz sharif should also be punished for appointing such a bad character and malingerer as army chief...as should teh SC for approving teh coupAug15-2009--In what can be termed as outright corruption the PPP regime has offered 12.5% shares of state enterprises to teh bad state enterprise workers so that the misdirected privatisation plan can go ahead...teh PPP which initially nationalized everything has forgotten its populist and socialist ideals and become a mean capitilistic natured party...Aug15-2009--Punjab government confiscates sugar stocks of various factories Aug15-2009--rockets fired into kohat and peshawarAug15-2009--IDP's in kacha garhi camp raise black flags to describe their hell hole life in teh camp...Aug15-2009--over ten people die in independence day celebrationsAug15-2009--The governments policies are full of contradictions...it wants everything that the people buy to be more expensive while it subsidizes the rich agricultural and textile lobbies..Aug14-2009--government announces some reforms to fata's FCR regulations allowing politics but not going far enough to change teh cruel collective responsibility clauses and destruction of homes and properties...Aug14-2009--13 militants killed in orakzai air strikesAug14-2009--Yusuf raza Gilani refuses to meet mark lyall grant who apparently came to ease the pressure on musharaf to face trialAug14-2009-- a lt col is killed in clashes with smugglers in kharanAug14-2009--punjab sugar factories hoarding 30% sugar stocks...Aug14-2009--another LHC judge resignsAug15-2009--while the rates for teh older IPP plants should have been reduced by now the power minister accused of corruption says that rental plants are teh only solution...and their rates are almost similar to IPP's...since teh rental power plant is not being bought and requires less financial outlays the rental power rates should be much lesser...the high rates are evident in teh huge profits earned by Hubco...!!
