• Aug15-2018--Despite apparent laments of the losers there was a general bonhomie at the new national assembly oath taking...broken only by a few odd or strange or out of character PPP naara baazi...Imran Khans shaking of hands suggested that he was thinking ahead to the presidential elections and attempting to soften the PPP from the PMLn grasp...many suggested that the since the presidential election could be close affair the main parties might agree on a neutral or even a popular president that is somebody known for his work on the provincial or national level...while such personalities are rare in pakistan someone could be found...

• Aug15-2018--JIT's originated in karachi and always involved the MI and ISI and Rangers apart from the police and CIA/police...It was thought the military intelligence walas knew more and would be more honest than the local police who were always easy to bribe or politicize...In the Asif Zardari money laundering case the SC was considering a JIT and said the ISI and MI were not necessary...the CJ seems tobe incorporating Nawaz Sharifs opposition to the military intelligence agencies role in the Panama Avenfield case...The ISI/MI were probably put in there so that the military remains informed and does not get uneasy...The case was based on foreign information rather than any military inputs...The ISI/MI also put a little more backbone into an investigation...

• Aug13-2018--In what might be the final version...Imran Khan to stay in the primeminister house staff quarters...! he will occupy the house reserved for the military secretary who can be a brigadier or colonel..!The primeminister house was not built by the british and is just 30 years old...Imran Khans aversion to living init is unclear reason wise...living in one official house or other hardly matters...he probably will have to fire the 100-200 or so employees of the primeminister house barring one cook and somebody to clean his house...During the Dharna the PTI attempted to occupy the national assembly and primeministers house but failed...The PTI has probably lost any latent radicalism and at best is a middle of the road submissive political party now...The PMLn and the PPP seem happy at their position in the national assembly but still want to continue with their meaningless laments...not many have filed any complaints in the election tribunals...discussions in the house or a parliamentary commission seem meaningless direction wise...since the house cannot order the ECP or change the results and at best the parties can interchange political favors...Anyway 15 byelections are coming up which should be important for the opposition
  
  
• Aug12-2018--while Imran Khans PTI was able to douse terrorism in KP he might find that terrorists are looking at new ways to fight the government...Three policemen and two terrorists killed in attack on police checkpost near Gilgit...while religious groups have suffered a technical defeat they are generally regarded as closer to the terrorists...the interior minister and the new future army chief who generally fight the terrorists are thus of great importance...In balochistan a suicide bomber attacked a bus near Dalbandin carrying 18 chinese injuring three and two others...
  
  
• Aug12-2018--Imran Khan retreats to Mianwali and gives up all other urban seats...he ends up with 158 seats in the national assembly after the nominated elections of women and minorities...PMLn at 82 and PPP at 53 and MMA at 15...he will have 184-188 seats in the national assembly...his coalition will face a 151 seat opposition coalition...about 10-12 bye elections will take place depending upon who gives up their national assembly seats

• Aug11-2018--Asad Qaiser from rural Swabi tobe national assembly speaker after an updown reputation as KP speaker...a man who claims that now we all speak Urdu...he had presided over 20 PTI mpas selling their votes in the senate election...He joined the PTI in 1996 before which he was a leader of the JI's militant type student wing. He became president of KP PTI in 2008...while Chaudhry Sarwar is picked for punjab governor and Pervez Elahi for punjab assembly Speaker...Sarwar had previously been the governor in the Nawaz Sharif regime at the same stage who had imported him from england where he was in scottish politics...he resigned three months into his job presumably because the punjab government refused to assist him in acquiring land and than joined the PTI...further controversy surrounded him when he became a senator from punjab with 20 PMLn votes...some claimed that the PTI had broken off the south punjab votes while others said that the PMLn connived in his election...Only the sindh governor has resigned...the nominations seem mildly controversial

• Aug10-2018--The opposition protests in front of the provincial election commission seem to have fizzled out...many suggest that the PML, PPP,BNPm, MqmP should decide how they won their seats...obviously they too won by dhandli...The protestors should resign their seats and challenge the PTI to an election on their seats...The RTS protests are misplaced as that could only delay election results...which hardly has seemed to matter...apparently the RTS system was poorly designed for use by 80000 polling stations from all over the country...causing it to slow down as the database system was not fast enough...votebuying was common amongst the PMLn and the PPP too...the PMLn just failed to stuff the boxes this time...their methods of dhandli failed because of the ECP having slowly and steadily eliminated their methods of crooked voting...

• Aug9-2018--The countries losing parties mounted a substantial demo against the elections process...mostly the second tier leaders attended...Shabaz Sharif did not attend the protest...The protest did not seem sustainable and there seemed no basic reasons for the CEC and ECP members to resign...in some places roads were blocked...Apparently Imran Khan said that he was ready to open all the seats for thumb imprint verifications..while opposing recounts...The opposition vary of judicial power and the law wanted a parliamentary committee to study the issue...while the PTI seemed to favour another judicial commission...!
  
  
• Aug9-2018--Imran Khan says he is bringing a clean young man for punjab chiefminister...ghuda he khair kare...have not heard of a clean politician yet...it will probably be another khan...! Mahmud Khan nominated for KP chiefminister from PK9 matta, swat...as minister for sports and culture he did not give any known outstanding perfomance , has also been in other ministries such as interior and irrigation...possibly/probably one of the few who were not corrupt or someone from a backward region of KP...although has faced corruption allegations...his name was not being mentioned among those being considered...although Pervez Khattak did say something about someone having been imported by imran from overseas...In 2013 Pervez Khattak had said there is nobody but me to appoint as KP chiefminister...Atif Khan seemed tobe the defacto contender alongwith Asad Qaiser but he was opposed by Pervez Khattak...Atif Khan was supposed to have performed in the education ministry..however one media outlet said that the decision about Mahmood Khan had been made before the elections...he is said tobe have an agriculture masters degree and has 89 kanals of land and has 150 shops in Matta bazaar...also has Rs40 million in the bank...probably makes upto a million a month...started out in the musharaf era as matta tehsil nazim in 2005...Probably a sop to the musharaf brigade in the PTI..! or is Imran Khan in favor of bringing back nazims to solve the karachi imbroglio...?
  
  
• Aug9-2018--SC rules that the ECP is authorized to allow recounts and court interference is not required overruling the high court decision and cancelling recount in Na131......political sentimentality he says has to be dealt with at the political level...26 results have been withheld...while nine with held are in the NA alongwith two of Imrans seats...three of Imrans seats have been provisionally announced...Imran than will have to keep NA 131 as the others can theoretically be cancelled or lost

• Aug8-2018--PTI's finance supremo says that he has already been misquoted about privatisation of 200 companies and says he will look for external funds from all sources...eurobonds, sukuk, bilateral, multilateral, expatriate bonds, IMF etc...as is well known privatization has not solved any problems apart from enriching the purchasers...he refuses to help out the people who voted them to power but says he will offer lollipops to expatriate pakistanis who have a sentimental relationship with the PTI in terms of dollar bonds and land equity deals...some of the PTI members from overseas have found it difficult to acquire land thru the sarkar at nominal costs and are being nominated for governorships...!local voters apparently will only be offered police reforms and LNG and CPEC deals will be aired in parliament...so much for voter expectations and sentimentality...!he says state entities like railways, PIA, steel mills etc. will come under a wealth fund run by the president and there will be no need for line ministries or even subsidies or money...!!Says Imran Khan unable to distribute jobs in D-chowk but can increase revenues(questionable), reduce expenditures and open six areas for investment...he says he will reduce indirect taxes which are currently 90% and try to increase direct taxes...a pipe dream many say...how can you restrict the only real source of revenues in the country apart from local and foreign loans...he says Nawaz Sharif increased the current account deficit from $2 billion a year to $2 billion a month...!he says Nawaz and IMF were hand in glove and their knowledge of economic realities amounted to using Panadol for high fevers...!he said there was no truth in deals to release Nawaz Sharif...
  
  
  
• Aug8-2018--SC wonders why the cabinet did not approve the NOC for Raheel Sharif's saudi muslim Nato commander job while the defence ministry did it under instructions from the conniving army chief...!...Raheel sharif is said tobe at best a military advisor to the saudi crown prince...technically Nawaz Sharif did recommend Raheel Shareef to saudi arabia...a period of two years hiatus is mandatory for sensitive job holders/beaurocrats before getting private sector jobs...another former ISI chief apparently also got a job in UAE as Health Advisor...he however says that he did not get the job or was fired after having no health system experience or ability...!apparently the army chief negotiated the NOC with Raheel sharif and suggested that he would not interfere in pakistan and/ or reduce the pakistans armies relationship with saudia or interfere with the role of the pakistan army chief

• Aug5-2018--Imran Khan looking extremely white after an expensive facial told a sceptical iranian ambassador that he would mediate in their disputes with saudi arabia...Iran or shiites have a long running animosity with saudi arabia which runs into the history of Persia which Imran Khan should study ie the history of persian-arab animosity...they have been at loggerheads over the persian gulf in the past century and matters in bahrain, lebanon, iraq, syria and yemen and even elsewhere...the iranians or persians have a long history and have always looked to dominate the arabian peninsula which they have never achieved until recent times...the pakistanis have tended to over look iranian adventures into bahrain, iraq, lebanon, yemen and syria given their defensive submissive nature and thus causing further angst in saudi arabia at their ostrich like attitudes...many suggest that iran has even at times attempted to destabilize pakistan and supports a greater iran...iran has also designs to control southern afghanistan and has been conniving with india to provide them a port and overland entry to afghanistan...iran has compared its port/charbahar-india to Pakistans Gwadar and chinese control over it for forty years(to hide its intentions in the area)...many suggest that the chinese almost look like owners of Gawadar and are also looking at Jiwani as a future chinese base...The iranians also sent a drone into balochistan airspace which was downed by the airforce...there has also been some talk about some recent iranian insurgencies into balochistan...pakistan has been avoiding the iranian gas linkages and going for LNG...however Imran could start linking up gas pipelines with his supposedly good friend iran who would even like to pay for it...!There has also been some recent activity in helping iran achieve nuclear enrichment...while iran has reportedly offered to help them militarily in kashmir and in negotiations with india...?The Iranians expect the saudis to offer them joint control over holy territories given shiites emerging strengths...while the saudis have worked with iran on oil prices/production in the past recent activities in yemen have caused cooperation to be toned down apart from say in hajj matters...saudi arabia is also attempting to liberalize and forget about the iranian revolution...
  
  
  
• Aug5-2018--The LHC orders a recount in the lahore constituency NA-131 where Imran Khan outpolled PMLn loudmouth Khawaja Saad Rafiq...Recounts can be ordered where the margin of victory is less than 5% or 10000 whichever is higher...however several recounts usually take place before results are announced...and the loser did not even complain that his polling agents had been thrown out...!

Pakistan will probably end up with another $60 billion in loans because that is the only place where Rs 8 trillion in revenues can come from...Pakistan usually picks up $10 billion annually from donors

• Aug4-2018--The PTI must be in a bind otherwise they would not take in the battered MQMp and accept their generally ethnic animosity oriented reservations about everything from Rangers, police, census, rigging and jobs...apparently they will also get a ministry and a package for karachi...this is almost total discrimination against the rest of the country...MQMp has just 0.7 million votes down from around 2.5 million...PTI negotiators work like this...make a list of all your grievances and demands...oh ok what else do you want...karachi is one of Pakistans most developed cities...dont you want more water...i'll setup a few desalination plants...cutoff defence area water and tell them to setup their own desalination plants...i'll call up the KWSB to clean the nullahs if you cant do it...! MQM generally very unreliable and have upto now jumped out of coalitions before the governments end...nobody else has any reservations about the census...MSN a US online newspaper says that Imran Khan has felt the trauma of his mothers families migration from Jallander where they lived for 600 years...the rest of imrans family comes from kohat and mianwali...The PTI which will be in opposition in Sindh will have to get the PPP to work on karachis problem areas...federal government already working on a mass transit bus system in karachi and plans for a mass transit train system...how a group of 7 lakhs in a city of 10 million is representative is difficult to understand...the PTI has also said it will help the mqm get recounts and audits on numerous NA and sindh assembly seats...how that works out is unclear as those seats have mostly been won by the PTI...working together to oppose each other...!
  
  
• Aug3-2018--The MQMp mounted a protest outside the ECP office against rigging...most of the karachi seats have gone to their coalition partner the PTI which has assured them that thumb imprints will rechecked...such matters have tobe decided by the courts...about 150 votes were allegedly recovered from a Gizri school marked with PPP stamps...no reports about whether the ECP has checked the votes...The ECP had said that they used watermarked ballot papers to check vote fraud...

• Aug2-2018--The ECP is coming under increasing criticism for shutting down RTS which is a Nadra program when it was the ECP program RMS that had collapsed...a politician from balochistan critisized the ECP secretary for a personal vendetta...while many complained that their polling agents had been thrown out and forms or results provided on ordinary paper...complaints about rejected votes are not credible as rejected votes are shown to the polling agents...a lot of recounting is being done some on the orders of the high court...most recounts usually show a minor variation...generally there is no accusation of rigging in the polling process...
  
  
• Aug2-2018--the ISI and army chiefs are in the news these days...The CJP wanted to know how army and ISI chiefs take on foreign jobs without fulfilling the two years mandatory requirement... mian mithu the pakistan army chief praises the army contribution to elections...and ISI protests at judge Siddiquis comment of army and ISI involvements in missing persons...as well as critisizing involvements in judicial decisions...he was probably critisizing the CJP when he critisized those involved in manipulating judges for various benches...The judges took cognizance of the ISI calling itself a prestigious institution and that its reputation was damaged...the judges commented that there were no prestigious institutions and all were equal and madeup of people...The judge literally trashed several decades of army propaganda based onits meritorious services and prestige...it is all basically based on a controversial provision that the army cannot be critisized...The army and ISI are well known to hide their faults under spin doctor theories and have generally refused to correct their faults especially in taking responsibility in the missing person syndrome...
  
  
• Aug2-2018--Ahsan Iqbal accepts that PTI won the elections fair and square...he now wants them to implement the meaningless CPEC, nine industrial zones, roads and other projects plus five motorways that they started...The PTI will have to focus on their own ideas rather than waste more money on the loan guzzling PMLn policies...the PMLn has increased foreign loans to $84 billion and just interest payments annually are around $8.5 billion plus $60 billion in imports...where is the money to come for these PMLn projects...The PTI's ideas for another 8 trillion in revenues is over five years and achieving that would be phenomenal...with bussinessmen , industrialists and rich agriculturists literally siphoning off money from the country like Avenfield apartments and Tareens 12 acres london estate gathering another Rs1.6 trillion annually will be difficult...The PMLn exports policy has not achieved any monumental success and is not expected too either...The PMLn apparently was also blocking funds for KP projects...and there is supposedly a 1.06 trillion circular debt... money for which is kept in a holding company...one of the first acts of Ishaq Dar as
  PMLn's finance minister had been to payoff a Rs350 billion plus circular debt...!The british ambassador has offered to use DFID funds to help Imran Khan put 22 million children into schools...!
  
  
• Aug1-2018--i think that the PTI can easily challenge the opposition to another bout...ie after taking oath Imran Khan could ask the opposition to send their team for negotiations...given the information he has now Imran can easily win another election in sixty days...changing a few candidates here and there he could also win in central punjab...for the people it does not matter and it is the government that will have to fork out another Rs21 billion...The PMLn too could improve if they went into a coalition with either the TLP or MMAP...methinks however the opposition will tamely sit down in the assemblies...The PMLn could easily offer fazlur rehman and siraj ul haq a by election seat but they wont win even with an easy opponent
  
  
• Aug1-2018--religious groups votebank is highest in KP at 18% and lowest in punjab at 7%...In punjab the religious vote shifted to the TLP mostly...the opposition only has the byelections left which they can win if they putup joint candidates...The PTi has a good votebank even in central punjab but has a poor record in byelections...

• Aug1-2018--one of the biggest expenditures for the government is loans repayments which some suggest might be around 10% of the $80 billion in foreign loans...after that comes the astronomical imports of over $60 billion...in that too chinese imports are around $17 billion...so if the IMF wants to restrict usage of the the bailout package than the only use for pakistan would be paying for non chinese imports and loans...and perhaps some component can go to dam building or other development works which are also being carried out by chinese contractors...so US Secretary of State will find it hard for pakistan to take a non chinese use conditionality...
