Jun27-2021--The Dawn suggests that cotton sowing has fallen further in Punjab to 3.16 million acres...it has been replaced by maize from 2.6-7 million acres in six years and rice from 3.5 to 5.3million acres...both maize and rice and sugarcane are key food crops while cotton is considered non essential for the people...maize is also a key requirement for chicken feed one of the main protein suppliers in peoples food chain...the government has literally been running the textile industry thru subsidies and tax drawbacks and free electricity...but it has forgotten that the textile industry is technically unfeasible if 6-8 million bales have tobe imported...the government has a unrealistic target of 10 million bales which is almost double of last years...!

Jun26-2021--Wapda issues contracts for 1530MW fifth extension power house whose 500 KV line will probably run seperately for islamabad...This will be on the fifth and lowest tunnel of the dam and will make redundant the entire old powerhouse as water cannot be used for the entire system at once...wapda says they have 10 megaprojects under construction ...most tobe completed in the late 2020's...they say water storage will eventually increase to 11.7 MAF and hydel generation will double to 20591MW...this will make some of the older tarbela power generators redundant as the entire powerhouse cannot work at the same time due to constraint on water releases...apparently if the old power house is run at full capacity there are extreme vibrations so the first eight are usually not used...!the government should realize now that all hydel electricity and water will not be constantly available and that they have to make arrangements for when hydel is not available especially in winter...however four dams on the indus will allow them to use the water freely and save it too...but the variations of hydel will not be eliminated...for example if all the four dams are empty their will be no water or electricity in winter...and the extra water should not be given under the control of Irsa but saved for winter
