The Daily PakistanPolitics--July8, 2009
Jul8-2009--Supreme Court puts carbon tax on hold...Ogra immediately notifies new petrol price of Rs50.53...The carbon tax and other taxes almost double the price of petroleum products in pakistan and the cause is governments single minded blind attitude of taxation, taxation and taxation...it just could not let go of teh Rs100 billion it was making from the PDL...it not only reinvented the levy but also increased it to generate Rs113 billion...The peoples protests had no bearing on the assembly or teh government...The court was right in that the government did not need the money asits efforts to clean up teh environment were minimal..The dumb primeminister obviously learnt nothing and said they would defend their excessive and needless taxation...Jul8-2009--US drone attack kills 16 in south waziristan..airforce also targets south
waziristan...one soldier killed as roadside bomb hits a convoy near gomal zam...one civilian killed in exchange of fire at jandola fort..another soldier killed in an attack on a convoy in north waziristan...dwa toi fort attacked with rockets and helicopters pound militants in datakhelJul8-2009--The troika which seems to have been making teh crucial decisions in this government met for teh third time in a weekJul8-2009--Zardari says that militants nurtured for short term gains...?Jul8-2009--The foreign service which is trained for ambassadorial assignments over a lifetime is told by salman bashir that they cant do anything as the president prefers the sifarishi jehanzeb khan and refuses to appoint a career diplomat instead..the PPP is very sifarish oriented and many suggest that salman bashirs brother was appointed navy chief in a similar manner...obviously merit, seniority and capability are not very high on the list of considerations in the matterJul8-2009--two more mqm-h activist killed in karachiJul8-2009--Sindhis have serious misconceptions about many things..one that they can close teh indus link canals...if there was a serious shortage of water in sindh than punjab could giveup some share of indus water...the mangla dam has tobe used to store some water in case the rains are delayed since tarbela is almost working as run of teh river dam due to sindhs exceptional water requirements..another misconception is that sindh was the richest province at partition...sindh at that time had only one textile mill, no agriculture of any worth and literally no resources...punjab on teh other hand was india's grain feeder and had discovered oil...sindh comparative to 1947 has increased agricultural production substantially, is the leader in industrialization, education and commerce and has discovered oil, gas and coal...one doubts that teh servants of sindh have their heads on teh right way...if sindhis donot get admission it is their own fault and teh PPP regimes failure is the same in all provinces...obviously teh other provinces have been hard at work too and everyone has to help out the IDP's...it is really quit horrific that sindhis oppose IDP's...immigration and migration take place usually due to economics and strife and people go to places where there is more opportunity...one finds it difficult to understand teh sindhi attitude...
