30Apr-2023--The election talks have become muddy, dubious and political and some suggest they are near a dead end..Pti almost prepared to quit talks...with the PTI raising other issues and wanting a conducive/enabling environment too...when PTi will itself adopt an enabling environment instead of confrontation is unclear...earlier it was supposed to be a one point agenda...PTI politicking it widely as the issue almost grounds to a halt...imran raised the ante by refusing to accept a government budget and saying that governments must be dissolved by May14...for a one time national election...Imran however agreed to persist with talks snubbing his communist street worker hardliners...Ishaq dar says he knew nothing of the pervez elahi raid just as he knew nothing of the national assembly rejecting funds for elections...Ishaq dar who is playing dumb peacemaker seems to not know how to deal with it...The PMLn huddle however suggests that they will go into elections after some relief to the people when a IMF agreement is reached...IMF agreements never provide relief to the people...ishaq dar has no idea of peoples problems as he recently increased medicine prices by 20% and even announced a further raise in electricity tariffs...many think that the people are barely concerned with election dates and are unsure twhether the reluctant pro big guy phycho economist imran will be able to make major changes and bring in pro people policies..last time he jettisoned a ahmedi economist who many say is behind current government extremist polices...no major attitude changes are expected in the tuesday last round unless the PTI comes up with a more mutually agreeable agenda or the PDM collapses...elections in July , september, august, october are the same to the people and the only possibility is to split the issue thru the middle...lets say elections on august30 or dissolution of all assemblies on august 14...tough to accept by both sides...! ...The issue will than revert to the SC and one does not see how they can resolve it unless they open up their minds...many think that the PTI will be the only one queing for the doors of election booths to open...and may have to go for a street battle once again...!

28Apr-2023--as bomb blasts and firing rang out in Lakii Marwat the government and the PTI met for the first round of talks as the government delegation was buttressed with ishaq dar, azam tarrar and their allies...it might be considered a breakthru however previous talk results have been torpedoed by imran...there were reports that initial meetings took place on Apr19 but there was no confirmation...other contacts being attempted by the senate chairman and the ANP who might be looking at pti support in KP where the PTI has tilted towards the JUIf...a letter was supposedly written by the NA speaker to the CJ..the PTI came prepared and suggested dissolution of all assemblies in May and elections in July and a possible one time constitutional amendment ...they also wanted the NA speaker to allow them back into the assemblies...Shebaz also took a vote of confidence securing 180 votes ...for the time being the mqm sided with the government...if the PTI comes back in than there could be a possible minor vote swing however it is expected that shebaz will retain support..now this is a PTI position of which we have been hearing for the past month...how the PDM responds is unclear and might be clear inits response today...earlier the PDM has said that the assemblies will expire in August and elections can take place in October or November...the PDM has also suggested that the funds for the elections can be budgeted in the next budget which usually comes in May..The CJ has also said that talks can resolve the problems as the issue is between two parties and the courts donot have much leeway or leverage..the PTI has suggested that the courts takeover the caretakers job and hold elections...that is going away from the constitution...the issue therefore is for the parties to resolve everything by May 14 and dissolution after the budget is passed...!...if they can the courts will paper over minor cracks in the decision making...if not there could be a standoff on May14 with the courts having to give a judgement apportioning blame by May15 or earlier when they realize that elections are not being held...there could be further destability if everyone stands there ground...

26Apr-2023--The ISPR chief probably the first chaudhry in that position saying they were apolitical came out with the usual army politics and rhetoric...mostly he had turned against the TTP and social media critics..there were guffaws when he said that they regarded all politicians with respect a sort of slap in imrans face..he continued to support a general election nationwide and said they could not provide security...the only people available maybe the Punjab Rangers and everybody else was involved in operations...he seemed to run right into the PTi views...he said that 293 killed in terrorist incidents last year and 157 killed in military operations...positively he said armed forces reducing expenditures...he insisted that the fauj could provide food security on 45000 acres from punjab and did not explain why ordinary kissans/private sector/chinese could not handle it on a tender basis...military has had problems with people working on military farms...he said that the army could not respond to social media directly and immediately even though many of them are military related..even retired lt. generals are putting out AI generated rhetoric on a specific side...the military too could hire 1000 influencers who could respond immediately..he also said that "dragging the institution into politics to suppress an ideology, religion or a political party had resulted in chaos in different countries"...probably referring to afghanistan, lebanon, somalia, sudan etc...The Pti many would say is just facing ordinary law breaking cases... the ISPR chief seemed to suggest that they had no ideology, religion or politics...that would make them aetheists at best...as for the law it should be applied by the government/police rather than the army...!

Apr25-2023--the talks at gun point have to take place by tommorrow...however imran has expressed scepticism saying we are for May14 elections in punjab only..Shebaz still talking to allies...initially the talks were to take place under the aegis of the JI and than the SC ordered talks to take place after eid...given the wide gaps in the PDM and PTI positions one has difficulty in assuming a consensus...only the two speakers have some point to talk about with asad qaiser even offering a one time constitution amendment..the SC could lets say wait for three days and take up the matter and announce it' s decision...which if not implemented could force the SC to initiate actions say against the State Bank governor, secretary finance, finance minister and the lame duck ECP chief...The ECP chief has however been following SC orders and can hold elections in punjab although one cannot say they will be fair as the PMLn has no candidates in the race...if the ECP does not get funds than the SC would have no option but remove the government and impose an interim government and hold national elections in 90 days...! That would take a lot of guts on the part of the seemingly weak Bandial...!

Apr18-2023--rumours about talks had upset the allocation of 21 billion to the ECP however it was again rejected by the national assembly...apparently the government has taken two trillions in rupee loans from banks and they have over a 1.5 trillion in the FCF account...The SBP which was ordered by the SC to provide the funds say assembly approval required and funds are available...on the PTI side fawad and imran are key opponents to talks...most other senior leaders seem pro talks some going as far as approving a one time constitutional amendment...the imbroglio moving towards an impasse and possible military involvement...with a stalemate brewing on all sides something has to give and a coup direct/indirect might be the only possibility left..if the military is averse to direct involvement every body would have tobe jailed with a possible military puppet in power delaying elections further...
April18-2023--true to form the Pti says they are more concerned with imran's fake assassinations than elections and talks...a few days ago they had the chef sounding out whether imrans room is bomb proof or bullet proof...than imran mentions supposedly signals/inside information that assassinators/home attackers on the way...imrans dubious undercover informants not yet identified...imran now travels in a bullet proof vehicle as he did before and he has additional bullet shields while in the court..no blood shed has taken place apart from attacks on the police when police visited imrans place which he fears will be occupied again during eid holidays...many think it is just paranoia...even in court seeking a blanket stay against 140 cases he was only talking about his dubious informants...
Apr17-2023--in what many see as a victory for the PTI as the PMLn and supposedly PPP will go in to talks via the JI...the JI says that the talks on elections with various government parties will take place after eid at their HQ...This suggests that elections could be two or three months down the road possibly..the PTI has been in talks with minor parties TPL, JI and the GDA...that only leaves the election date as a controversy or talking point...PTI will gets off its high horse on punjab/KP elections while how the PMLn climbs down from October 8 is unclear..even if elections take place on Oct 8 that will be a clear victory for the PTI...many suggest that nawaz and maryam in saudia have reached the conclusion that some interaction might be better as the Pti is running all over them with the judiciary in tow...PMLn senior men also might now be incharge as both negotiators are key nawaz supporters... other suggestions are that the PDM has completed its one year with nothing spectacular except high inflation and iMF obstinacy..they highlighted imrans stupidity in foreign relations too...Shebaz looks a soft inexperienced ruler when he says even further conditions from the IMF will have tobe accepted...as for how quickly the talks reach a conclusion depends on the staying power of the participants...even if they reach a conclusion by say July the earliest elections could take place is September..however the JI would like July/early august elections......however the PTI might be more interested in getting back into the assemblies and than the October 8 could be a date written in stone...!..if the talks are quick like ..."OK Oct8 give us the opposition leadership" that gives the PTI participation...the elections date becomes immaterial...the government lasts upto say August 8 and a talks mechanism stays in place to remove any emerging thorns/tantrums...the PTI looking at a constitutional amendment to end Bajwa rule and save face that the constitution has been safeguarded thru a one time amendment to delay elections...the amendment would have tobe in place before May14 or a dubious SC might look the other way...! or the SC can recuse or whatever...!

April 17-2023--Shahid Kardar bemoans the SBP attempts to control inflation thru interest rate increases to astronomical levels...this only restricts the federal government from taking bank loans at high interest rates...and thus only effects the federal governments macro strategy...Shahid Kardar forgets that foreign remittances, dollar price and import costs are the key to inflation...while foreign prices donot fluctuate as much prices in country go flying above the norm...and might be fertilizer is not the only component of agriculture prices skyrocketing apart from greed..Thus the key is to control the dollar whatever the IMF says...foreign remittances are causing around 20% of the inflation as the dollar skyrockets...Shahid Kardar does not give any key suggestions barring reducing electricity use...most power plants are running at 20% and getting capacity payments of 90 billion...The problem is that this would have reduced electricity prices but the capacity payments block that...reducing petroleum imports lets say by 20% cannot reduce inflation when u have a high dollar and every price , tariff is skyrocketing...u are just trying to slowdown the country to a crawl..given higher and higher loan repayments only points to reorganising loans and drawing out repayment options...the problem is the government is taking steps in both directions...it does one thing and does another to protects its allies...it is a stalled economy until major reforms like reducing tariffs, prices, dollar rate and import costs take place...inflation is being controlled in the west but not in Pakistan..and the major factor is controlling need for dollars and their price in Pakistan...please move in one direction and forget about your allies...everyone should suffer...
April17-2023--for reasons best understood in the higher corridors of power... development these days only takes place in islamabad that too mostly on the roads...the provinces have/are doing nothing...government reduces development outlay to 600 billion...still a huge amount one never understands where it goes...in lahore i found these days you go just up and down the canal road which is devoid of altos but full of corolla's,vigos and prados...and there is a underpass every few kilometers...a friend said this is all south punjab money wasted by pervez elahi on underpasses...spending 20-30 billion on lahore out of the trillion that punjab has for development is justified...the first underpass cost just 300 million and was completed in three months...south punjab is also very developed/clean since the 1970's when multan used to have open dirty water nalis or drains...ie outside the railway station...
