Aug25-2009--The government seems to be more interested in taxation for teh sake of taxation as is demonstrated in teh sugar case...while it is an essential food item which are generally exempted from taxation teh government makes Rs12 billion from it annually...reduction in taxation is referred to as a loss to the government which is obviously incorrect as the opposite would be taxation is a loss to teh consumers or people...the government which has been earning from sugar sales and imports should end its massive involvement and should only involve itself with the sale price...according to dawn millers are still earning Rs13-14 per kilogram and teh provincial and federal governments are also earning profits...teh government should end sales taxes on sugar as well as teh profits that it earns...benefiting the people is the last thing on the mind of the federal government which is bent upon benefiting each every stakeholder barring teh ordinary public...
